Public Opening: Red Kites at Priors Hall Park

June 4, 2017

Following the selection of artist Ralph Skrimshire by a panel of local residents, three public sculptures were produced for a commission of public artwork at Priors Hall Park. Each sculpture depicts a pair of red kites in flight, positioned atop an oak post. You can find a sculpture in at the entrance to Rockingham Gate, by the Amphitheatre in Town Gardens and on the serpentine green in Weldon Lakes. The wings are filled with specially commissioned stained glass, the design of which references the three different areas of the development.

All three sculptures were presented to the community at an opening on 3rd June. Mike, the Chair of the Neighbourhood Association said a few words at each of the locations, as did the artist Ralph. After a walk, attendees had a chance to speak to the artist along with the organisations which commissioned the work. A demonstration of live birds of prey was also present at Town Gardens.
